Overview
Nooma is a revolutionary product that is changing the way people experience spirituality ? a series of short films on DVD with a 32 page discussion guide. It's not a book or a cassette tape. And it's not a CD or a two-hour movie. It's a new format called NOOMA® ? short films, between 10 and 14 minutes long, about God and our lives. Since its limited online release in November 2002, NOOMA has impacted millions of people. Because of this initial success and great potential, Zondervan has partnered with NOOMA to bring these films to the world. NOOMAs are appropriate for personal and small group settings, congregational meetings, and much more. Like parables, they use the experiences of our lives to teach about the fullness of life through Jesus, tackling issues like forgiveness, discipleship, and unconditional love. The study materials accompanying each NOOMA encourage meaningful discussion with relevant questions and biblical references. Rob Bell, a leading pastor and breakthrough communicator in the Christian community, is featured in the first series of NOOMAs.

Publishers Description
NOOMA is a new format for spiritual direction. It's short films touching on issues that we care about, that we want to talk about, and it comes in a way that fits our world. It's a format that's there for us when we need it, as we need it, how we need it..Audio: English. Subtitles: English, French, German, Korean, Mandarin, Portuguese, Spanish.

Community Description
Why do we do things we do? Why do we go to church or give money away? Because we're suppose to or because we think God needs it? Do we honestly put on our best clothes for an hour once a week, stand and sit at all the right times, and sing all the appropriate songs for God's sake, or because it'll make us look better to the world around us? We're tired of all the empty rituals and routines. And so is God. God hates it when we call ourselves Christians but ignore all the things He really cares about. He hates it when we go through hollow religious routines out of some feeling of duty or obligation. God doesn't want the meaningless rituals. God wants our hearts.

Reviews - What do our customers think?
Decent, but not the best one...  Jan 18, 2008
Rob Bell is a great communicator, and the filmmaking of the NOOMA series is creative and top-notch. It's a totally unique form of Christian teaching, and I've been impressed so far with Bell's ability to discuss profound life issues and wrestle with biblical concepts in ways that are interesting and engaging, while raising fascinating questions.

Having said that, Sunday is not one of my favorites in the NOOMA series. Sunday consists of Bell sitting in a diner, talking about the church. The setting was interesting, and the topic was relevant. My problem with Sunday is that I couldn't figure out what big idea we were supposed to be pondering. Our group discussion afterwards meandered, and though we hit some worthwhile conversations about whether we should do spiritual things when we don't feel like doing them, I'm really not sure that's where Bell was sending us.

Ultimately, my experiences with NOOMA have been good. And though Sunday is fine, I'd recommend others (Rain or Trees, for example) before Sunday.

New look in the american church.  Jan 1, 2008
It is good material, especially for the newer christian working their way into the best church God has in mind for them. I wish there were these kind of resources available in my early years (1970's).

S'Okay...A Small Group Leader's Review...  Jul 18, 2007
I don't know. Maybe I killed it. Maybe I shouldn't have cautioned people about slipping into denomination bashing upfront.

Either way...the conversation for Sunday did not go as well as for the first three Noomas.

I think Sunday is strong, though again like Trees, it does not have the best cinematography of the Noomas. The people walking by are a little distracting. The fact that there are phones in the booths but that they never get used and waitresses seem to be swarming is also an issue.

God's message from Isaiah chapter 1 is one of my favorite pieces of scripture. I don't know if it was my leading, the weakness of this Nooma, or a mixture of both--whatever it was--I feel a disservice was done somewhere along the line in the meeting in which we watched and talked about Sunday.

While I still contend that the Noomas are some of the greatest small group resources out there, I can't quote swing a full recommendation for this one.
