The New American Standard Bible (NASB) is described by those who know about biblical languages and their translation, as the most accurate of the modern English translations. I've used the New International Version (NIV) but am now reading the NASB to see how it compares.

Sometimes, I come across wise adages ending with biblical references like "2 Corinthians 5:7" and wonder where they came from. This book is compact, and the words are printed with great clarity. It is easy to read and to understand. I have looked up several biblical references and they all hit into the right locations in the book. I recommend this among your other books of wisdoms. It is a great reference indeed.

| First of all I would like to say that the New American Standard Bible is an excellent literal translation. It utilizes the Greek critical text, which is the most widely accepted Greek Biblical text used today. The NASB really is the monument of modern scholarship. This translation, written by the Lockman Foundation, has been a blessing to evangelism accross the USA. Sometimes it can be a little difficult to comprehend since it is a very literal translation but if you take your time you can really catch on to the meaning of the text that God wanted you to grasp. With literal translations the author's opinion of the meaning of the text is usually not put forth into the text. This paraphrasing can happen when your translation is more dynamic. The format of this specific book is pretty basic. You have a table of contence, a letter from the translators explaning their translating methods, abbriviations, and the Greek text base. As a bonus, you get a few black and white maps and a small word concordance in the back (a concordance is a list of words and where they occur in the text). Don't think this concordance is anything remotely close to the size and the completeness of Strong's Concordance, but this one can probably find for you the word that you are looking for. The letter size is a little on the small side and the pages tend to be filled to the brim with text which can be annoying but it still can be used for quick references. My favorite size for Bibles happens to be Pew size. You can travel with them and even stick them in your pocket (if you have large ones). | For years, the NASB Bible has been recognized as the most literally accurate Bible translation in the English language. Yet, a criticism has sometimes been a perceived stilted and wooden phraseology in some passages. Well, not any more! The NASB Updated Edition has now enabled the NASB to claim to be the most accurate translation as well as being crystal clear in readability. It is now the equal of the NIV in understandability while surpassing the NIV in literal accuracy. In my opinion, it is the best translation in the English language. In addition to its clearness and accuracy, the NASB Update, available in Reader's Pew/Hardcover and Gift and Award Editions is one of the best Bible values available today. While being slim and compact, the text is crystal clear and easily readable; critical translation notes are at the bottom of the page, and although there are no cross references, there is a full concordance and 10 pages of maps! This is a complete Bible and an outsta! nding value for the dollar. Both hardback and imitation leather styles are attractive and durable, and the hardback edition is especially handsome.
