Each arithmetic operation is covered in three books, with Book 1 teaching basic facts and Books 2 and 3 teaching multidigit computation with whole numbers. In addition to teaching basic facts, all 4 first books ask students to draw pictures to find answers and to solve application-story problems. Each Book 1 contains Checkpoints and a Testpoint to evaluate progress. In Books 2 and 3 for each operation a flagpole features the sequence of steps to be followed for each new procedure. Books also contain practice pages, many of which are self-checking, and application-story problems. A Checkpoint and Testpoint monitor progress at the middle and end of each book. Division 2: Dividing One- and Two-Digit Numbers teaches the procedure for dividing 1-and 2-digit numbers by a single-digit number. Students learn to record all remainders. Included are examples where the tens digit of the dividend is a multiple of the divisor, and examples where the tens digit is not a multiple and regrouping is required. |
