A book I have come back to several times Oct 29, 2008
I love this book from Michael Yaconelli. I read it for the first time about 5 or so years ago when I was just beginning to live my life for God. As life has happened, and difficult times come and go, I have returned to this book several times to help open my eyes again to the 'Childlike wonder' and 'excitement' of Faith.
'Dangerous Wonder' inspires and challenges!
Yac gets it Jan 12, 2008
I gave this book a 4/5 stars because I love how well he talks about having childlike faith. I disagree with some of the theology in the book, thus preventing it from getting the 5th star. However, I used this book as the leader of a book study with a group of mothers and they absolutely loved the book and felt encouraged to do things that they had always dreamed of. This book is a great resource for getting people out of their comfort zone and into their hopes and dreams.
A good corrective for "serious" Christianity Feb 6, 2007
Yaconelli makes a good case for opening up Christians to new venues of faith. He also invites us to consider different shapes of believing and expressing that faith. This is an easy read with some memorable stories to connect to. It was well worth my time!
Believe you can fly! Nov 24, 2006
The Adventure of Childlike Faith
"Curiosity requires courage. You must be willing to ask questionseven when they threaten everyone around you. Faith is more than believing: it is an act of courage, a bold grasping of God's truth. Faith is a wrestling match with God, an intense struggle with truth in an attempt to squeeze every bit of knowledge out of it. Curiosity is the shape of our hunger for God." p. 45.
Yaconelli's book is a treasure. It will make you lift-off, float and fly.
Soar with this book.
Beautiful Indictment... Sep 8, 2006
I have read a good number of books that would fall in the "Christian Living" category, and a good majority of those that I've read were...nice. Few of them were truly inspiring. This is one of the few.
With a measure of eloquence and grace I've not often seen in any genre, Mr. Yaconelli indicts the reader for our "maturity" and pushes us to realize the meaning of "childlike faith." Somewhere in the rush to grow up we have forgotten what wonder is like and how to experience it, and further, we've forgotten that we've forgotten. Dangerous wonder encourages the reader to remember wonder and to seek after it again. To untie the tethers of maturity and adult expectations, and allow your imagination to run.
Wonder ought to be a necessary ingredient of true faith, and the author delicately but firmly reminds us of that in a very effective, very readable, relatively short work. A total breath of fresh air.
